The rupee gained 0.7% to record its strongest session in more than six weeks after oil fell and traders reported Reserve Bank of India dollar selling.
What happened
- USD/INR open: 96.1475
- Intraday rupee high: 95.7950 per dollar
- Rupee move: +0.7%, strongest since June 12
Why it matters
India imports most of its crude, so lower oil can reduce dollar demand from importers. Central-bank dollar sales can amplify that fundamental relief, which is why the session moved more than oil alone would imply.
Market context
Reuters cited trader estimates of $1.5 billion to $3 billion of RBI dollar selling and noted nearly $32 billion attracted by recent RBI measures. Those are attributed estimates, not confirmed intervention totals.
BeCoin read
The rupee’s follow-through depends on whether oil remains lower and importer demand stays contained. Because intervention estimates are not official, BeCoin does not present the reported range as an RBI disclosure.
This is BeCoin analysis of a documented event, not a trade instruction. Any scenario above is conditional and may be invalidated by new facts.
